In my new role as Minister for Small Business I am looking forward to meeting small business owners and operators across the State and learning about the issues first hand.
There are about 645,000 small businesses in NSW – they are the most dynamic sector of our economy and are critical to building the future of our State.
The NSW Government understands the challenges people in small business face and the importance of actively supporting and encouraging the sector in many different ways.
For example, the Small Business Regulation Review, a targeted sector-by-sector review of regulation from a small business perspective, is well underway.
The focus is on identifying regulatory controls and practices that impose an administrative burden on small businesses and create unintended consequences.
I recently launched the 2007 Premier’s NSW Export Awards. I urge our many successful exporters to put their hand up for well-earned recognition.
Another important event for small businesses is Western Sydney Manufacturing Week, from 28 May to 1 June, which will focus on the interface between world-class sustainable manufacturing and innovation.
Now in its third year, Western Sydney Manufacturing Week highlights and promotes the significance of the manufacturing sector to the Western Sydney, NSW and Australian economies.
